Wheel & Tire Combo's

Submit any Combo's you know Works
*************************************************

Submit any known comb's you have that has worked for you.

I want you to include all info you know as tire sizes and brand of tire used.

Wheel offset or back space on the rims. And if you had to use any wheel spacers.

If you needed to trim wheel well lips or massage the inner wheel wells.

If you moved the springs in to the frame or used the offset spring hangers.

What type of axle is under the car and if it is the stock unit or if it was changed what housing was used in your combo.

And if the housing was narrowed, How much was it narrowed.

This thread can be a very useful thread to all the members if you suppy as much info as you can on the combo you used.

Talking radials on the front with 14" wheels the tallest would probably be 215/70R14 which are 25.9" in diameter but you may have to raise your ride height also. I didn't like this size on my Duster which has manual steering. I prefer the 205 or 195/70R14's up front. The widest tire in 14" for the rear that is about the same factory diameter is the 245/60R14 or tallest is a 225/70R14. You have more options with 15" wheels also. You can go to www.bfgoodrichtires.com and look at all the different sizes or pick up a brochure at a tire dealer you like to use. JMO but a wide 60 series tire doesn't look good on the front of a Duster and may have clearance problems.

Well I ran a 9 x 29 slick on my car w/o having to alter the wheel well openings, at least for the first set of 9 x 29's !!! the second set hit the front of the opening on both sides.
I don't think, really I know he can't run a 9 x 30 in a stock wheel well.

But the 9 x 29 on a 10 x 15 centerline draglite with a 4-7/8's back space on a stock width axle will work, but you'll need to watch for them hitting the front of the opening. And 'may' need to tweak the opening on some slicks.

And Like I said one set fit and the second set didn't. same brand of slick and same size of slick and same slick compound.

And part of the reason those fit was the rim was a 10 inch rim with a 9 inch tire on it. It didn't have as much sidewall 'bulge' on the 10 inch rim as it would of had on an 8 inch rim.

Tough to say, what's the measured wheel width and tread, I run 15x10's with a 6" backspace with 295/50s no problem, clears the lip.

6" NO WAY, your measuring it wrong. With the springs in the stock localation 4 7/8 is the maximum backspacing with stiff side walls. I run custom made cragers 15x10 with 295/50-15 B.F.Goodrich T/A's with 5" backspacing, I had to put a 1/4"spacer in there to stop the rub, I have about 3/16" clearance between the spring and sidewall. These are on a 72 Demon

I'm running 15x10's Centerline Drags on my '72 Duster in the rear and have the rims set up with 5in or "on dead centers". I have equal clearance on my SS springs and the lip of the wheelwell. I'm currently running BFG 265 50's in the rear without any problems. I believe these tires are 10.8 inches at the widest point.

Tires are bfgoodrich radial t/a s 225/70r15up front and 275/60r15 out back. The rears are 1/4 to wide and needed to roll the fender for speed bumps and pot holes. Would have gone 275/70r15s had I known the rims where 15x8.5 instead of the 15x8.0 I thought I ordered.the new tires and rims make the car. I'd like to point out the importance of proper backspace measurement. I've seen police wheels listed as 4.5" BS and that isn't true.
Even some wheel manufacturers (namely Centerline) use an improper measuring system.

Backspace should be measured from the bead (not the outer lip) to the area that contacts the hub/rotor/drum. Using this measuring system, cop wheels come out as 4" backspace. Those wheels themselves are 15x7, for anyone who may not know.

Anyway here are a couple I know work-
'69 GTX w/8&3/4 rear. Outer lips have been radiused slightly (ameteur rust repair). Otherwise stock.

Rear combo:
wheels:
15x8 with 3&7/8BS from a Ramcharger truck.

Tires: 275/60/15 Radial TAs--- no clearance problems on either side. There is enough room for stock outer wheelwells, but just barely.
Same wheels but with 28x11.5x15 Hoosier Quick Time Pros---Plenty of room on the inside, but the outside would rub the outer quarters on a stock body. They fit my car fine, but would rub w/stock outer quarters.

Same car:
Rear combo:
wheels- 15x8&1/2 Centerline Auto Drags with advertised 5" backspace (4.75 BS using my measuring method)
Tires: 275/60/15 BFG radial TA's fit great, and would fit a stock body with no problem. Anything over a 12" section width will rub the inner wheel lip with this wheel/body combo assuming a stock body. 11.5" section width(or less)is best with this combo.

Front combo:
Wheels:
15x5&1/2 Centerline Auto Drags with 2&3/4 BS(or zero offset).
Tires:
BFG radial TA, 215/70/15. Plenty of clearance.
Note:
Any tire over 26" to 26 1/2" tall will rub the framerail on a hard turn with this front combo. 215/70/15's are 26" tall and give a good, wide safety margin.

Now this one I'll have to let you know about later on, since I don't know for certain yet.

Same car:
Rear combo:
Wheels:
15x8 Weld Draglites w/4.5" backspace
Tires: 28x11.5x15 Hoosier Quick Time Pros- Have not test fit yet, but according to my measurements it will center the tire in the wheelwell better than with the Ramcharger wheels, and will fit better. This should also allow the tire to fit a stock body with no problems. I'll confirm this after I test fit them.

66-67 Dodge and Plymouth B bodies and 76-80 Dodge and Plymouth F
bodies, 15x8 Cragars with 4.5 inches of backspacing will fit a 275/60x15
(roughly 28x9.5x15 inches dimension wise) street tire in either the front
or rear of either style car. Fronts will rub on inner frame rail and wheel
opening lip during extreme cornering loads. Lower profiles tires such as 50,
40, 35 series will fit without the interference issues, but you can't get
much wider.
*************************************************

I run an 8 and 3/4 stock rear-end
in a '69 Charger that has stock leaf springs, 2" lowering blocks, rims are 15x8 with 4 and 1/2 inch backspacing and 295 65 15 BF Goodrich drag radials. On the
driver's side, I had to use a 3/16 spacer for the tire not to constantly rub. The tires sit about 3 inches tucked in my wheel well. But when I am taking a sharp turn up a steep driveway, my tires slightly rub
on the wheel wells. Hope this can help anyone out that wants to use a bigger tire on the B body.

C Body
*************************************************

65 Sport Fury, if you want to run a 275/60-15 tire on a 15x8 rim, order rims with a 5 inch backspace (EDIT: I have the standard 4.5 inch backspacing) If you do not, the tires will be cut by the wheel well lip and/or rub the upper fenderwell. The only other alternative is to raise the rear for clearance. If you look at the pics of my Fury you can see it is all the way to the outer side of the wheel well. With proper backspacing I think a tire up to two inchs wider would fit. I hopefully will find out for sure!

I got my 275-60-15 T/A 's mounted to my Weld dragstar's this afternoon. The rims are 15 x 8 with 4 1/2" Backspacing. I have found every car is slightly different. Mine fit perfect, 1/2" from the widest part of the sidewall to the fenderwell lip, 1" to the stock springs. I anticipated having to add a 1/4" wheel spacer to get it centered, but it turns out it could have been 4 3/4 BS if it were offered. Had 295-50's 15 x 7 w/ 4 1/4 BS fit also, needed 1/8 spacer to fit centered. Taller stance and bigger tire diameter fits the well excellent, looks plum full.
Getting front 245-60's mounted to 15 x 7 41/2 BS tomorrow. Should fit fine from my measurements.
